Less tears thanks to the customers and friends of Hamptons Penarth
All of the money given for carrier bags at Hamptons has been donated to Many Tears Animal Rescue in West Wales. So far over £500 has been raised.
Customers at Hamptons have also been donating blankets and towels which are desperately needed at Many Tears for bathing the dogs when they first arrive and for bedding.
Many Tears specialises in finding new homes for dogs that have been used for breeding… and then discarded when they are no longer of any use. Most of the dogs arrive at Many Tears completely traumatised as they have never lived in a proper home with a family, they don’t how to walk on a lead, they haven’t been socialised and they are not house trained. Many are also sick or exhausted and the only life they have known is living in a crate, having litter after litter of puppies. Invariably these dogs can only go to a home where there is already a dog because they don’t know anything about normal dog life and need another dog to learn from.
Roxy and Millie, the Westies who will be known to many Hamptons customers both came from Many Tears. Both had been used for breeding before being discarded by their owners. Millie in particular was in a very poor state. She was virtually bald, covered in sores and it took six months before she could walk properly on a lead. She also needed a new knee and is still frightened of open spaces. There are so many dogs like Roxy and Millie and donating the proceeds from carrier bag sales seemed a natural choice for Andy and Peter.
On Friday 3 February Roxy and Millie tried out the huge pile of blankets and towels that have been donated by Hamptons customers before they were delivered to Many Tears!
Andy and Peter were delighted to be shown around the centre by Sylvia and Bill who run Many Tears and work tirelessly to rescue unwanted dogs and find families for them to start new lives with. “The sheer number of dogs waiting for homes at Many Tears is heartbreaking and each one has its own sad tale to tell,” said Peter. “Many Tears is doing a fantastic job and with the support of customers at Hamptons we’re delighted to help.”
All of the 5ps for carrier bags at Hamptons will continue to be donated to Many Tears and Hamptons is continuing to collect blankets and towels as well as collars and leads – new and used.
