Following last year’s popular and successful Penarth Local Food Festival the organisers Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG) are pleased to announce that they will be hosting the Festival again this summer.

This year’s Festival will take place on Sunday 15th July from 11am to 4pm. Once again the location will be The Kymin House and grounds on Beach Road, an ideal location with stunning views across the Bristol Channel.

Last year’s event was such a big hit with stallholders and public alike that GPG have been receiving enquiries about this year’s festival since early January, especially from local businesses keen to take part.

This year’s collection of stalls is another mouth watering line up of tasty local food including cheese makers, bakeries, deli treats, organic produce and much more. There will also be a variety of hot food on offer including the ever popular Glam Lamb, a fish grill from The Fig Tree and vegetarian treats from Hamptons and The Parsnipship. Arth Wines will be selling locally brewed ales and other drinks.

The day will also feature acoustic music, a bread making workshop and a variety of demos.  There will be a children’s Yurt with a range of activities and events. The pedal powered smoothie maker, a hit with children of all ages last year, will also be back.

The festival has a strong ethical element with stalls promoting fairtrade, permaculture and information on GPG’s activities and community projects.

Raising awareness and promoting the use of local producers and suppliers is an important aim for GPG. The group are also responsible for the ‘Shop in Penarth’ loyalty card scheme which has been very successful in promoting the many independent shops in the town. The organisers hope to build on the success of both the Food Festival and the SiP scheme to make more people aware of the vast range and quality of produce available on their doorstep.

‘We were thrilled with the response to last year’s festival’ said festival co-organiser Anthony Slaughter, ‘this year’s event promises to be an equally

enjoyable celebration of the local and sustainable, a chance to support the local economy and sample wonderful food.’

Entrance to the Festival is free.
